PAQs (Potentially Asked Questions)

Who is Matt Glaz?

Matt Glaz is an independent singer/songwriter from Chicago.  The fact that he places a “/” in between the words “singer” and “songwriter” means he’s super serious about what he does.

What sort of songs does Matt write?

Matt likes to combine catchy melodies with a lyrical wit to create a diverse assortment of music:  from comedic pop/rock novelty songs to mellow, introspective, and overly-serious displays of wretched self-importance.  You can listen to the ordeal yourself by clicking on the Music tab!

What made Matt decide to pursue a career as a recording artist?

He is desperate for the undivided attention of his peers.  He also really, really likes creating music.

Where does Matt record his music?

Matt records his music at home by using inexpensive studio equipment and typing things into Google like, “How to record music at home using inexpensive studio equipment.”

What kind of name is Glaz?

It’s Polish.

Really?  Was it shortened from, like, Glazowski or something?

No.

Who is Matt’s favorite Ninja Turtle?

Michelangelo.  Obviously.

    Hello,

I am a friend of Margaret Wieczorek and she told you me that you may be interested in a project I am working on and/or know others that might be.

I live on the south side of Chicago and next year will be starting a New Works theater company in Hyde Park. For the rest of 2015, I will be hosting 24HR theater festivals to find artists to work with in 2016. If you are unfamiliar with 24HR shows, it is when a group of theater geeks get together and have just 24 hours to create, rehearse, memorize and perform a 10 minute scene. There are usually 4-5 groups and therefore everything culminates into a One Act Festival. However I also want to have a special guest spot where musicians/poets can perform. They would have to follow the same rule where anything that is performed has been created in the previous 24 hours and should follow the same prompt the theater geeks are given. I’m having my first show next weekend (14th to the 15th). Would you like to be the special guest? Please forward this message to anyone you know who might be interested in this.

    Best,
    Marrissa

Hey, Marissa! This sounds really great, and I’d like to thank you for the offer. It sounds like a fun challenge, and I’d love to see what I could do. I don’t know what Margaret told you about me, but I have a background in both songwriting and acting, so I think either one might be fun.

Here’s the “but”: I currently work a job with long hours and an overtime day, so I’ve even had to put a hold on working on my own music for a while. My Sundays will be free soon, so I’d be able to do something Saturday into Sunday, but between Friday and Saturday, my 24 hours are realistically more like 4 hours. I do have some vacation time coming up at the end of September, and there may be a possibility of my participating then, though I don’t know how long your offer stands.

My girlfriend is also an actress (and a poet). She’s very talented (and I’m not just saying that because she’s my girlfriend), and she too may be interested, but her weekends are also booked until October as she is shooting two or three movies right now. However, if these festivals will be running until the end of the year as you say, she may be excited to participate in a couple of months. I’ll certainly ask her.

If possible, don’t put us out of your thoughts just yet. In the meantime, I’ll post your message on Facebook, as I have many acquaintances in Chicago with a background in theater. Before I do so, confirm that you’re okay with my publicly posting the above email as your contact info.

      Thanks again!

      Matt
